New Moon in Capricorn —
Good things come to those who wait!

New Moon in CapricornThe New Moon at 19 degrees Capricorn occurs on January 9th, 7:30 p.m. CT (1:30 a.m. on January 10th, GMT). This fire and ice new moon joins secretive Pluto in Capricorn and re-activates the waning rebellious Uranus in Aries square aspect once more before it fades from our awareness.

Earlier in the week, communicator Mercury began his retrograde period in high-tech Aquarius, squaring Mars then moving back to revisit Capricorn. If we are careless with our message, communication may get serious or argumentative — and no one will be laughing. The Sun forms an intense connection with Pluto in Capricorn as well. With all these planets in the sign of the goat connecting with Pluto and Uranus, this ambitious moon packs a powerful punch! Expect power struggles, intense ambition, miscommunication, behind the scenes strategic moves and manipulations. Restless, explosive energy is fermenting in the dark of the moon this week, as we work to complete a multitude of projects. This would be a good time to keep a low profile, think before you speak, and stay out of the “cross-hairs.”

A New Moon is usually a great time for beginnings, but with Mercury entering his three-week retrograde period, we are cautioned to wait just a bit. Now is NOT the time to launch anything new. It would be better to put all that ambitious, powerful Capricorn/Plutonian energy into research, reflection and preparation. Pluto in Capricorn wants us to break down and transform any worn-out plans or structures holding us back from following our true soul purpose. Saturn wants stability and recognition for all the hard work we have been doing, while Uranus demands that we break out of the prison we have created for ourselves by following outdated systems and ways of being. Timing is everything in astrology and we can bring all those beautiful plans to fruition — next month, after Mercury goes direct!

Even normally loving, affectionate Venus is feeling the chill as she brushes past austere Saturn in Sagittarius. Money may be tight, and this may not be a warm and fuzzy time for relationships if we have been overly focused on work or ambition while neglecting those we truly love. Saturn, in his formal dance with Venus, has been revealing truths about our relationships — cementing those that are true, and shining a realistic light on partnerships that no longer serve our best interests. Trust his wisdom!

With all this heavy energy in the cosmos, our saving grace comes from Jupiter connecting with the North Node in Virgo and forming a favorable aspect to the New Moon. The luck planet, Jupiter is also beginning a retrograde period that will last several months — another reason to slow down and spend time in contemplation. Going within through meditation or connecting with nature to hear the voice of our inner divine guidance would be a good practice during all this retrograde energy. The North Node leads the way to our karmic path. Jupiter brings hope and abundance if we remember that our beliefs create our reality. In Virgo, we must focus on the details and examine what we truly believe is possible. We must make time to visualize the world we want to create down to the last detail and have faith that we can bring that reality into existence. Virgo is also about service and sacrifice. How are we willing to serve society? What must we sacrifice to fulfill a dream? How can we use the power of faith and optimism to create change in our lives, and in the world?

It may be a time of re-thinking, re-visiting, and re-structuring this month — but keep the faith because good things are waiting to be born!
